School of Languages Cultural Awareness Day and Sports Gala

The School of Languages of the University of Ghana is organising its annual Cultural Awareness Day and Sports Gala. The School which comprises the Departments of Modern Languages, French, English and Linguistics, is holding these events in an effort to enhance the relationship between its Departments. This is the maiden edition of the Cultural Awareness Day to be organised by the School since its institution, after a successful event being organised by the Departments of Modern Languages and French in April, 2015.

The Cultural Awareness Day and Sports Gala which are slated for the 14th and 15th April, 2016 will take place at the forecourt of the Departments of Modern Languages and French and the Mensah Sarbah Hall football field, respectively.

The Cultural Awareness Day is organised to help to familiarise the students of the Departments and the University’s community with the cultures of the languages taught as well as harmonize the study of these languages with their respective cultures. This programme features activities such as music performances, poetry, dance choreographies, drama and video documentaries that reflect the cultures of the various language departments and sections. There will also be a food fair where each unit will display popular cuisines from their respective cultures.

The second edition of the School’s Sports Gala will feature football competitions, Chess, Ludo, Oware, traditional and other games.

During the two-day programme, there will be activities sponsored by the Russian Embassy in Ghana and the Radio Universe. A highlight of the programme will be the blood donation exercise: the School of Languages and representatives from the Ghana National Blood Service will be happy to meet many new and old blood donors both on the 14th and 15th of April, 2016 in the Volta Hall car park and near the Mensah Sarbah Hall football field from 8.30am – 3.30pm each day.
