THE SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES HOLDS ITS WEEK CELEBRATION

The School of Languages has held its first ever School week celebration. This edition comprised various activities which engaged faculty, staff and students. In the course of the celebration, members from the School met with alumni, portrayed the culture of the languages they offered, and also exhibited their physical fitness in sports competition.

Time with Alumni was an interactive session with alumni, students and faculty, during which some of the School’s alumni shared their experiences, and benefits they had derived from languages they studied.  The alumni present included Ms. Bridgette Dzogbenuku (the running mate of the Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party in the 2016 Presidential elections), the 2016 Best Graduating Student in French, Ms. Edna Mensah as well as Mr. Conrad Kakraba (Personal Development Coach and Motivational Speaker).

The celebration continued with the Cultural Awareness Day. Students performed dances to the tune of music in their various languages. There were musical performances and poetry recitals as well. The excitement was at its heights when the Dean together with some faculty members gave their tetra-dramatic dance. In addition to the performances, there were mouth-watering dishes from the various Units within the School. Altogether, people ate and danced their hearts out at this event.

The celebration climaxed with a Sports Gala. Faculty, staff and students of SOL showed their physical prowess as they engaged in inter-departmental football competition, musical chairs, ‘ampe’, eating competition, and tag of peace. There were also indoor games such as Ludo, draft, ‘oware’, and chess.
